Weekend trip to Granada

This 2-day Granada trip blends history, culture, and landscapes. Stop at Presa de Béznar for scenic views and Lanjarón, a picturesque town known for its natural springs. In Granada, explore the Alhambra, stroll through the Albaicín. On day two, visit the Cathedral, Royal Chapel, and dive into Granada’s tapas scene.

Day 1: Journey to Granada with Scenic Stops

Stop 1: Presa de Béznar

  • Location: Located in the Valle de Lecrín, the Presa de Béznar (Béznar Reservoir) is a beautiful spot to take a short break during your journey.
  • What to Expect: Surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery, this reservoir offers stunning views of the water framed by the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. It's a peaceful place to stretch your legs, enjoy the tranquil scenery, and maybe even take a few photos of the reflective waters.
  • Activities: If you have a bit of extra time, you can take a short walk around the area or stop for a quick picnic. It’s a quiet, scenic location perfect for a break from driving.

Stop 2: Lanjarón

  • Location: A charming town in Las Alpujarras, just a short drive from Presa de Béznar. Lanjarón is famous for its natural mineral springs and is often called the "Gateway to the Alpujarras."
  • What to Expect: Known for its clean air and healing waters, Lanjarón is famous for its historic spa and spring water, which you can try at various fountains throughout the town. The town also has charming narrow streets and traditional Andalusian architecture.
  • Activities: Visit the Lanjarón Castle, an ancient ruin that offers a fantastic view of the town and surrounding valley. You can also stroll around the town, visit a local café, and sample some of the local honey, another Lanjarón specialty.

Evening: Stroll Through the Albaicín

Stop at the Mirador de San Nicolás to enjoy one of the most iconic views of the Alhambra against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains, especially at sunset.

Day 2: Exploring Granada

Morning: Visit the Alhambra

Day 3: Departure with Optional Stops

Optional Stop 1: Las Alpujarras

  • On your way back, you can take a detour through Las Alpujarras, a series of picturesque villages on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Towns like Lanjarón or Capileira are worth visiting for their stunning scenery, hiking trails, and traditional crafts.

Optional Stop 2: Baza

  • Alternatively, stop in Baza, a town known for its unique mix of Iberian, Roman, and Moorish history. The archaeological sites and the impressive Baza Cathedral make for an interesting stop before returning home.
